How buying a gun in Leesville works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Louisiana law allows.
Louisiana does not issue a state permit to purchase rifles or handguns and sets no state waiting period on dealer sales. Federal law sets the dealer minimum age at 18 for rifles and 21 for handguns, and every dealer sale includes Form 4473 and a background check. Rifles ship to the federally licensed (FFL) dealer you choose, where you complete ATF Form 4473 and the background check. Under federal rules, a holder of an ATF 03 Curio & Relic license may receive C&R-eligible rifles directly at the licensed premises; confirm current state and local rules before ordering. Bring a valid photo ID showing your current address.

Hunting near Leesville
On the Kisatchie Vernon Unit (excluding Fort Polk-Vernon WMA), the 2026-27 schedule lists archery Sept. 19 to Jan. 15, primitive firearms Oct. 24 to 25 and Jan. 2 to 3, either-sex firearms Oct. 31 to Nov. 1 and Nov. 27, and bucks-only firearms Nov. 7 to 26, Nov. 28 to 29 and Dec. 12 to 27, all still hunting only. Louisiana law bars deer hunting with centerfire firearms smaller than .22 caliber, so .30-06, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54R and .303 British are legal calibers; use expanding hunting bullets and check the LDWF pamphlet.
The Vernon Unit of the Kisatchie National Forest (Calcasieu Ranger District) surrounds much of the area, with still hunting only for deer on forest lands. Fort Polk-Vernon WMA, about 10 miles southeast of Leesville, is jointly managed by the Army and Forest Service and can close for military training.
Longleaf pine hills of the Kisatchie National Forest wrap around town, and deer camps fill the Vernon Unit each fall. Hunters here know to check Army training closures before heading onto Fort Polk lands.
