How buying a gun in Columbus works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Georgia law allows.
Georgia's official guidance says no license or permit is needed to buy a firearm. A dealer runs the federal background check after you complete Form 4473 with a valid photo ID. Federal law sets the dealer-sale minimum at 18 for rifles and 21 for handguns. Rifles we sell ship to the FFL dealer you choose, where you complete Form 4473 and the background check. Under federal rules, a holder of an ATF 03 Curio and Relic license may receive C&R-eligible rifles directly at the licensed premises; we are not aware of a state rule that limits this, but confirm with your dealer or the ATF.

Carrying a gun in Muscogee County
Since 2022, Georgia has let a "lawful weapons carrier", someone who would be eligible for a license, carry without one. The Weapons Carry License is still issued, mainly for travel to reciprocity states. Applicants must generally be 21, or 18 with qualifying military service. In Columbus you apply in person, walk-in only, at the Muscogee County Probate Court, with fingerprints taken at the Sheriff's Office. The court lists an $80 fee for a new license as of October 1, 2026. Licenses are valid for five years. Check the court's page before you go.
Hunting near Columbus
Georgia's 2026-27 statewide firearms deer season opened October 17, 2026 and runs to January 10, 2027, with a later close in some southwest counties. Either-sex days vary by county. Modern rifles and handguns must be centerfire, .22 caliber or larger, with expanding bullets, so .30-06, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54R and .303 British are legal with expanding hunting loads, not military full metal jacket rounds. Hunters must wear 500 square inches of fluorescent orange or pink above the waist during firearms and primitive weapons seasons. Check the current regulations guide for WMA dates.
Georgia runs a single statewide firearms deer season, with either-sex days set county by county. Blanton Creek WMA in Harris County and Big Lazer Creek WMA in Talbot County are the closest state hunting areas.
Pine and hardwood country in Harris, Talbot and Chattahoochee counties holds deer, turkey and feral hogs, and the state WMA ranges at Big Lazer Creek and West Point Lake serve local shooters. A large military community keeps rifle marksmanship a common skill here.
