The M14 served as the U.S. military's standard issue rifle from 1959 until 1970, and the Standard M1A was introduced in 1974 to give civilians a nearly identical rifle. This Standard Loaded model is a semi-automatic chambered in .308 Winchester and 7.62mm NATO.
It has a 22 inch barrel, a 10 round magazine, a black finish, and a listed weight of 11.3 pounds. The Loaded version generally adds upgrades such as a parkerized receiver and a National Match style sight set, which help at longer range.
That weight steadies the rifle in a sitting or prone position, and the .308 cartridge reaches out comfortably. Hunters take deer at long distance, and competitors use it for service-rifle courses. This is a current production firearm built on a military pattern.
