How buying a gun in Sierra Vista works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Arizona law allows.
Arizona does not require a state permit to purchase a rifle or handgun. At a licensed dealer you show a valid government photo ID, fill out Form 4473, and the dealer runs the federal NICS background check through the FBI. Federal law sets the dealer age at 18 for rifles and 21 for handguns. Rifles from this store ship to the licensed dealer you choose for Form 4473 and the background check. Federal rules let an ATF Type 03 Curio and Relic licensee receive C&R-eligible rifles directly at the licensed premises; check that state or local law does not restrict it.

Carrying a gun in Cochise County
Arizona law makes concealed carry by a person under 21 an offense, so adults 21 and older who may lawfully possess a firearm can carry concealed without a permit. The Arizona Department of Public Safety Concealed Weapons Permit Unit issues the optional permit, which helps for carrying in other states. Applicants generally must be 21, or 19 with current military service or an honorable or general discharge, and must complete a firearms safety course. DPS lists the fee at $60 for a new permit and $43 for a renewal.
Hunting near Sierra Vista
Arizona deer rifle hunts in southern units such as 35A are mostly draw-permit hunts, with dates set in the annual Hunt Regulations, so check the current regulations for 2026-27 dates and permit numbers. Arizona rules allow centerfire rifles for deer when the Commission authorizes the hunt. R12-4-303 bars taking big game with full-jacketed or total-jacketed bullets not designed to expand on impact, so surplus full metal jacket ammunition is not legal for deer. A .30-06, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54R or .303 British rifle loaded with expanding hunting bullets can be used.
The Huachuca Mountains west of Sierra Vista are in Arizona Game and Fish Unit 35A, which holds Coues white-tailed deer, mule deer and Gould's turkey. East-side canyons such as Carr, Miller and Ash on the Coronado National Forest are reached from Highway 90 near town.
The Huachuca Mountains and the San Pedro River valley give hunters Coues deer, mule deer and javelina close to town. Arizona Game and Fish owns the Sierra Vista Shooting Range east of the city.
