Parkerizing is the old military finish, a phosphate coating that grips oil and resists glare, and it gives this Loaded M1A its working look. The rifle is new, chambered in .308 Winchester, with a 22 inch barrel and a 10+1 capacity. Springfield Armory sells it as a modern sporting rifle.

The Loaded line is the step up from the standard M1A. What stays the same is the M14 heritage: a gas-operated action, a detachable magazine and a layout that has served riflemen for decades. Photos tell most of the story on a rifle like this, so look closely at the wood, the bluing and the markings before you decide.

A Parkerized steel rifle is easy to live with. Small marks blend in, and the finish does not shine in the field. That suits deer hunters, range shooters and anyone who wants a rifle that looks like a rifle.

Use a good scope mount if you plan to add optics, and keep the bore clean. The rifle ships to a licensed dealer of your choice, and the background check takes place at pickup.
