How buying a gun in Ogden works
Pick an FFL dealer near you that accepts shipped transfers and name it at checkout. We confirm their license and ship the firearm to them. Ammunition, optics and parts ship straight to your door where Utah law allows.
Utah does not require a state permit to purchase a rifle or handgun. A licensed dealer runs your background check through the Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification after you fill out Form 4473 and show photo ID. A valid Utah concealed firearm permit can waive that check. Federal law sets the dealer age at 18 for rifles and 21 for handguns. Rifles from this store ship to the licensed dealer you choose for Form 4473 and the background check. Federal rules let an ATF Type 03 Curio and Relic licensee receive C&R-eligible rifles directly at the licensed premises; check that state or local law does not restrict it.

Carrying a gun in Weber County
Utah law allows people 21 and older who may lawfully possess a firearm to carry openly or concealed without a permit, subject to location restrictions. Those 18 to 20 need a provisional concealed firearm permit to carry concealed. The Utah Bureau of Criminal Identification issues both the standard concealed firearm permit, valid for five years, and the provisional permit, which ends on the holder's 21st birthday. Both require a BCI-certified firearms familiarity course, and the standard permit is useful for reciprocity and some locations.
Hunting near Ogden
The 2026 Utah Field Regulations Guidebook lists general-season buck deer hunts as archery Aug. 15 to Sept. 11, muzzleloader Sept. 23 to Oct. 1, and any legal weapon (rifle) Oct. 17 to 25. Ogden unit hunters who take a buck on a general-season any legal weapon permit must submit a CWD sample. The guidebook says your rifle must fire centerfire cartridges and expanding bullets. A .30-06, 8mm Mauser, 7.62x54R or .303 British rifle is centerfire, but surplus full metal jacket ammunition does not meet the expanding-bullet rule.
Ogden is in the Utah DWR Ogden unit, where hunters who take a buck on a general-season any legal weapon permit must submit a chronic wasting disease sample in 2026. National forest land in the Wasatch Range east of the city holds much of the public hunting ground.
Ogden Canyon and the high country around Pineview Reservoir hold mule deer and elk within a short drive of the city. The DWR's Lee Kay range in Salt Lake City and Cache Valley range in Logan are the nearest state-run public ranges.
