The MA9106 is the classic M1A: a 22-inch barrel, a blued finish, and a 10+1 capacity in .308 Winchester, also known as 7.62 NATO. It is new, current production, and it follows the lines of the military M14 pattern that Springfield has built for civilian shooters for many years.
The blued finish gives it a more traditional look than the parkerized versions. Blued steel looks sharp against a walnut or synthetic stock, and it requires a little more care to keep from rusting. A light coat of oil after each outing is enough in most climates.
The M1A has a steel receiver, a two-stage trigger, and an aperture rear sight that adjusts for windage and elevation. A 22-inch barrel gives good velocity and a long sight radius, so the rifle suits hunting and target work at moderate to long range. The weight helps tame the recoil.
Many owners start with the Standard model and add an optic later. If you plan to do the same, check the mount choices and fit them carefully. Fire a few magazines to confirm the zero. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
