Shorter, quicker, and ready for an optic: that describes the M1A SOCOM 16 here. Springfield builds it as a civilian semi-automatic rifle in the M14 pattern, chambered in .308 Winchester, with a 16-inch barrel and a 10-round magazine. This version comes with a Dragon Fly red dot and a black CQB stock.
The short barrel makes the rifle easier to carry in brush, in a vehicle, or around a camp. A red dot gives you fast sight acquisition at the distances where a rifle like this does its best work. If you hunt hogs or deer in thick cover, the SOCOM 16 puts a heavy cartridge into a rifle you can swing quickly.
The cost of a short barrel is muzzle blast and a bit less velocity than a 22-inch rifle. Springfield deals with this by adding a muzzle device and a stout stock, and the weight of the rifle helps with recoil.
This is a new, current-production rifle. Before you head to the field, mount the optic securely, check the zero, and fire a few magazines to see how the rifle runs. It ships to your local FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
