Close-quarters is in the name, and the rifle backs it up. The M1A SOCOM 16 CQB from Springfield Armory is a new semi-automatic rifle in .308 Winchester with a 10 round magazine.
A short barrel makes a big rifle quick. Where the standard M1A is long and heavy, the SOCOM is compact enough for a truck, a blind or a thicket. The cost is more muzzle blast and a bit less velocity, but at woods distances the .308 still hits hard. Ammunition choice matters more than most buyers expect, so try two or three loads and keep the one that groups best.
The M1A's design stems from the military M14, with a gas-operated action, a detachable box magazine and a two-stage trigger. The CQB version is the modern, carry-ready take on the pattern.
For hunters of hogs and deer in brush, and for shooters who prefer a compact rifle, it fits well. Shooters should wear good ear protection, because the short barrel is loud.
It ships to a licensed dealer you choose. The background check is completed there.
