The Scout Squad is the short, quick M1A. Springfield Armory cuts the barrel to 18 inches, which brings the rifle to the shoulder fast and keeps it manageable in a vehicle or a tight blind. This version is chambered in 7.62x51 NATO, comes with a 10 round magazine, and wears a black finish.
The M1A is a civilian semi-automatic descended from the M14 service rifle, and the Scout Squad adds a forward-mounted rail position associated with the scout rifle idea. It is a current production rifle built on a military pattern, not a surplus piece.
Hunters like it for deer, hogs, and bear at moderate range, where its power matters more than its size. Competitors enjoy it as a heavy but steady hold. Expect a rifle that wants a good sling and a bit of practice, but rewards both. Plan a first range trip with a few different loads so you learn where it prints.
This is a new firearm. It ships to the FFL dealer you choose at checkout, and the background check is completed there when you pick it up.
