Two cartridge names appear on this rifle because they are close cousins. The Springfield Armory M1A Scout Squad is chambered in .308 Winchester and 7.62x51 NATO, with an 18 inch barrel, a 10 round magazine, and a black finish.

Where a full M1A is long and heavy, the Scout Squad trims the barrel for quicker handling. The rifle is a semi-automatic with a gas system, based on the M14 service rifle. A shorter length helps in a ground blind, a truck cab, or a thick stand of timber.

Pair it with a good sling and practice from the positions you would use in the field. Hunters and plinkers both find uses for a short .308 that still feels like a battle rifle.
