SPRINGFIELD ARMORY M1A (50TH ANNIVERSARY)

Limited editions mean little unless they come with a clear story, and this one has it. The seller says the rifle was released in 2005 to mark the anniversary of the Normandy invasion on June 6, 1944. Only 1,944 were made, a number chosen for the year of the landing, and this example is serial number 1608 of 1944.

It is a .30-06 Springfield rifle with a 24-inch barrel, military-style iron sights, and a standard semi-automatic action that uses en bloc clips. Six en bloc clips are included. The finish is black with a wood stock. Look at the photos and the serial markings to see exactly what you are buying.

A numbered commemorative rifle is a collector item first. Keep the original packaging and any papers, store the rifle with a light coat of oil, and avoid heavy use that would reduce its value. If you do shoot it, use ammunition suited to the action.

Check the bore and look over the stock, the clips, and the finish. Verify the serial number against your paperwork. It is sold as described, in used condition. The rifle ships to your local FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
