Short, walnut-stocked and shipping with a 10 round magazine that accepts 20 and 30 round magazines too: the Springfield M1A Tanker is the carbine version of the M14 style. It is new, in .308 Winchester, with a 16.25 inch barrel. The model number is AA9622.
The Tanker takes its name from the shorter M14-pattern rifles used by armored crews who needed a handy rifle in tight spaces. The 16.25 inch barrel makes it much quicker than the full-length rifle, and the walnut stock keeps the traditional look.
The shortened barrel gives up some velocity and adds muzzle blast. At close and medium range the .308 still has plenty of power. It is a good rifle for the vehicle, the blind or the brush, where a long barrel is a nuisance. Check which magazine sizes are legal in your state.
Keep the walnut dry and the steel lightly oiled. A sling helps with the weight. Wear good hearing protection, because a short .308 is loud.
It ships to a licensed dealer you choose. The background check is completed there.
