Rechambered Spanish Mausers have a following with people who want a cheap bolt rifle that fires modern ammunition. This 1916 Oviedo is an old Spanish Mauser rechambered in 7.62x51 NATO. It is used, with a 21.75 inch barrel, a five round magazine and a black finish with a wood stock.

The Spanish M1916 is a short Mauser rifle made at the state arsenal in Oviedo. It uses the Mauser action with its strong lugs and controlled feed, and the shorter barrel makes it handier than a full-size infantry rifle. The 7.62 NATO chambering is the same as .308 Winchester for most purposes, so ammunition is easy to find.

A conversion means you should check its quality before you rely on it. Have a gunsmith look at headspace and the chamber, and check that the barrel is sound. If the work is good, the rifle is a pleasant shooter with mild recoil.
