Plenty of American shooters started their surplus collections with a Norinco SKS. China made these rifles in large numbers, and many entered the US market in the 1980s and 1990s. This pre-owned example is chambered in 7.62x39mm and carries a 20-inch barrel, a black finish, and a wood stock.

The seller describes it as beautiful. It carries a five-round capacity, which is below what many SKS rifles hold, so check the photos and ask about the magazine. The SKS is a simple carbine with a gas piston and a tilting bolt, and it is easy to maintain.

Chinese SKS rifles differ from Russian and Yugoslav ones in small details, such as the sights, the bayonet, and the finish. Collectors learn to spot those details by looking at the markings and the stock. A rifle in good condition with clear marks can be a nice piece of Cold War history.

For the range, the SKS offers mild recoil and low-cost ammunition. It is good for hogs, plinking, and general fun. Check the bore, the gas port, and the stock for cracks when it arrives. It is sold as described, in used condition. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
