Not every Mosin carbine is a common M44. The M1891/59 was a conversion of older rifles into short carbines, and the seller calls this one a beautiful example in an uncommon configuration. It is chambered in 7.62x54mmR with a 20.2-inch barrel, a five-round magazine, and a black and wood finish.

The cartridge is a classic. It dates back to the late nineteenth century and is still in use, and it is powerful enough for deer at moderate range. Surplus ammunition is easy to find, and hunting loads are also available. The Mosin action is rugged, if not refined, and it runs well with simple care.

Uncommon configurations matter to collectors. If you already own a 91/30 or an M44, a 91/59 gives you a different piece of the family. Look over the markings on the receiver and the barrel to see which arsenal made it and when.

Before you shoot it, check the bore with a light and test the bolt. Pay attention to the sights and the front post, and look at the stock for repairs. It is sold as described, in used condition. The rifle ships to your local FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
