The Gewehr 88 was the German Army's rifle before the 98, and this pre-owned example is chambered in 8mm. The seller says it has been re-blued and has a 28 inch barrel, with a small dent shown in the photos. Capacity is five rounds.

Gew 88 rifles used a clip-fed Mannlicher-style magazine and a Mauser-designed bolt. The long barrel and early design make the rifle a good display piece for a collector of German arms.

A re-blued rifle has less collector value than an original-finish piece. Be sure the chambering is safe for the ammunition you plan to use; early 88 rifles were designed for a different cartridge. Have a gunsmith check it.
