Buyers who want a Mauser to shoot, not to display, often look at sporterized rifles first. This Gewehr 98 has been chopped down to a 22-inch barrel and chambered in 8mm Mauser. The seller calls it very cool, says there is no original box, and writes that pictures are king, which means what you see is what you get.

The serial number is 8205, and the weight is bolt action with a six-round capacity. The finish is other. Because it has been sporterized, it will not carry the value of an untouched military rifle, but the strong Mauser 98 action is still there, with controlled-round feed and a long extractor.

At this price, the rifle makes a fair project. You can fit a scope, replace the stock, or leave it as it is. An 8mm Mauser handles deer at moderate range with standard loads, and the rifle is simple to maintain.

Look closely at the photos for the stock, barrel, and sights. Check the bore with a light and test the bolt and the safety. Confirm the headspace before you shoot. It is sold as described, in used condition. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer for the background check.
