A machinist once owned this Chilean 1895 Mauser, and he left his mark on it. The rear sight has been altered and the bolt reworked for an easier action. The rifle has been converted to 7.62 NATO, also called .308 Winchester, and has a 28 inch barrel.

The original Model 1895 was made by DWM and Ludwig Loewe for Chile, in 7x57mm. That history is clear from the receiver markings. The finish is described as battleworn, and it holds five rounds.

This is a shooter, not a pristine collector piece. The conversion makes it easy to feed with common ammunition. Have a gunsmith check headspace and the lugs before you shoot it. Wipe it down after every outing and it will reward you with years of service.
