LEE-ENFIELD Savage No. 4 MK I US Property Marked 1943

American factories made more than rifles for Americans. During the Second World War, Savage built Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk I rifles for Britain under lend-lease, and many carry a US Property mark on the receiver. This one is a used Savage No. 4 Mk I in .303 British, built in 1943, with the property marking and the Savage name.

It is a bolt-action rifle with a 24-inch barrel and a 10-round magazine. The Lee-Enfield action has a short bolt throw, a rear-locking design, and a magazine that holds more than most military bolt guns. In trained hands it was fast, and that speed is part of its reputation.

Collectors look for the US Property mark because it ties the rifle to a unique chapter in the production story. A Savage-made No. 4 with a clear stamp is easier to date and identify than many others. Check the receiver, the bolt number, and the stock for matching marks.

If you plan to shoot it, inspect the bore and check the headspace. Use .303 British ammunition suited to the surplus rifles. A careful look at the wood and the sights will tell you how it was kept. Sold as described, in used condition. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer for the background check.
