JAPANESE MILITARY TYPE 99 SPORTER

Soldiers brought many Type 99 Arisakas home from the Pacific, and this sporterized example shows how some were reworked. It is a bolt action in 7.7x58mm Arisaka, with a 23.5 inch barrel, a four round capacity, and a blued finish. Listed weight is 6.8.

The seller notes that the Type 99 was made for under a decade and used in about a dozen wars, including World War II, Korea and Vietnam. This specific rifle has been sporterized, and the serial number is given as 87768. Sporterizing usually means a new stock or a cut-down forend.

A sporter has lost some collector value but is lighter and easier to carry. Have the chamber checked if you plan to shoot, because 7.7 Japanese ammunition is not common. The Type 99 action is regarded as strong.

One used rifle, sold as described. When you order, pick the FFL dealer who will receive it. The background check happens at their counter, not before. Buy it for the job you have in mind, and keep a cleaning kit and a few boxes of ammunition ready for the first outing.
