When the United States entered the First World War, it did not have enough Springfield rifles to equip its army. The answer was to build the M1917, based on a British design, in American plants. Eddystone was one of the three makers, and its rifles carried a lot of the load. This is a used Eddystone M1917 chambered in .30-06 with a 26-inch barrel and a five-round magazine.
The finish is wood over steel and the seller invites you to look at the photos for condition. That is a plain approach, and it means the pictures are the best guide. Look at the receiver markings, the barrel date, the stock cartouches, and the bolt for signs of wear or arsenal work.
The M1917 action is stout and cocks on closing, with a large aperture rear sight that many shooters find easy to use. It is a heavy rifle, and the long barrel gives it good accuracy. Many sporterized versions exist, so an original military rifle is worth a closer look.
Before you shoot it, check the headspace and bore. Use standard .30-06 ammunition. It is sold as described, in used condition. The rifle ships to your FFL dealer for the background check.
