DWM mauser modelo 1891

Argentina was one of the first countries to adopt a smokeless-powder Mauser, and the Modelo 1891 was the result. Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken, with Ludwig Loewe, built it in Germany for the Argentine Army. It is chambered in 7.65x53mm Mauser and has a straight bolt handle with an adjustable rear sight.

The example here is a used rifle with a blued finish and a 24-inch barrel. The seller mentions that the carbine version has a turned-down bolt handle and shorter barrel, so check the photos to see which style you are getting. The five-round magazine feeds from stripper clips, like the later Mausers.

This rifle sits earlier in the Mauser family than the 98, and the action differs in a few ways. It lacks some of the safety features of the later design, so collectors tend to enjoy it more as a historical piece than as a hard-use rifle. Check the receiver markings, the serial number, and the condition of the bolt.

If you want to shoot it, have the headspace and bore checked. Ammunition in 7.65 Argentine is available but modest in supply. It is sold as described, in used condition. The rifle ships to your local FFL dealer, where the background check is completed.
